What's wrong with my WiFi?

WiFi.  We all have used it.  We all have it in our homes and offices.  Most of the time, we don't notice any issues.  But when we do, it's always during something important.  A Zoom call, having 'movie night' with your family.  The wireless capability is very beneficial for devices you hold in your hand, or move around from place to place.  However, it doesn't make much sense at all for the increasing usage of internet connected home devices.  Things like your stereo receiver, and your Smart TV.  If the device doesn't move, it makes sense to put in a hard wire.  Even better, a hardwire that you don't have to string across your floor.  It's done once, and you will be able to enjoy the benefits for years to come.

Why is WiFi so bad at times?

 - A Typical WiFi scan in a residence

This is a picture of a typical WiFi Channel scan for 2.4GHz.  See all your neighbors WiFi networks?  Notice there are 14 different channels, and of those, consumers can only use 11.  Also notice, that if one network is on channel 1, and another network is on channel 2, they overlap.  This is not good for WiFi reliability and causes interference.  Since there are only 11 total channels available, and sequential channels can't be used, there simply isn't a 'safe' channel for your WiFi access point to choose.  (Most consumer WiFi products are set to automatically choose the best channel).

This is the #1 cause of 'slow' internet, and the near constant dropping of Zoom Calls, WiFi Calling, and other reliability issues.  This is to speak nothing of those Playstations and Xboxs.

What can we do about it?  Outside of buying new hardware to better utilize the 5GHz channel bands (which require both a 5GHz compatible device AND router), you can avoid this interference by hardlining your equipment.
